Okay, so. Imagine this as a backdrop for a modern Earth story. Its your typical day, you're doing your chores, sitting on the couch, at work, whatever you're doing. You hear the emergency broadcast system on your television, phone, radio, what have you, alerting you to what might be the inevitable doom of humanity from an extremely powerful supernova. Within the next few hours, the day time sky brightens up so much, even on the side of Earth at night, that it becomes blinding.
